Finding the Best Credit Card

Three steps to deciding the right credit card for you...

While there is not one single "best credit card" for every single person who wants a credit card, there is a process for finding the best credit card that anyone can follow. Before just grabbing any old credit card offer that you stumble across be sure that you are an informed consumer that is ready to do research, read credit card reviews, compare the various features of different credit cards, and take your time as you embark on your journey to find the best card for your needs. Here is a general step by step process for finding the best credit card.

#1 Know Your Credit Score & History

When setting out on your search for the best credit card, you must first know yourself. Your credit score that is. Your credit score is an indication to lenders of your likelihood of paying back any money that they lend to you. This means that credit card companies pay very close attention to the credit score and the overall credit history of anyone who applies for one of their credit cards. The higher your credit score is, the greater chance you have of not only finding the credit card that is best for you, but also getting approved for it!

#2 Decide How You Will Use Your Card

Different people use credit cards in different ways. Some people use their credit card for every purchase and then pay off the balance every single month so that they can take advantage of the credit card rewards, cash back, etc (a good thing), while others rack up huge credit card balances and then pay interest charges to the credit card company each month as they only make the minimum required payments (a bad thing). Decide how you will use your credit card beforehand and it will not only help you set some financial goals for using debt, but also help to guide your towards the category of credit that is best for you. For example, if you will pay off your card every month then a rewards credit card is likely best for you but if you will carry a balance then a balance transfer credit card or a low interest credit card is likely the best credit card for you.

#3 Research Online

You could sift through all of the credit card offers that you likely get in your mail box but why rely on the credit card company to show you credit card offers when you can be proactive and do some searching yourself? Read through reviews and offer details online and you can start to narrow down your search for the best credit card!
