Choosing Rewards Credit Cards

Learn ways to save money w/ credit cards and collect some rewards...

For many people, credit cards are unavoidable, as they cannot manage to pay all of their expenses with cash or cheque. In most cases, credit cards do not provide the majority of the card-owners with considerable advantages. Why? Because people do not take time to shop around and find an advantageous card. On the other hand, many credit card holders forget to pay off their card balances in full or are financially unable to do so, and this results in high late payment fees.

So in order to save with credit cards, people have to pay attention to two principles. The first is to make credit card payment on time, and never forget to pay off the card-balance in full. The second is trying to find a credit card that provides some kind of rewards for one’s spending. A rewards credit card can be a good option as it may provide its users with travelling discounts, cash back on the card-owner’s statements and many other advantages.

Why are these rewards credit cards not a more frequent option? The primary reason for this is that people do not really know much about this product and about the advantages it offers. So it’s time for those who make purchases frequently to make use of this card, and get rewards for their spending!

The first thing a future rewards credit card owner has to do is research the details regarding the available cards, and their main features. Look at the terms and conditions, compare what the different products offer, and choose the kind of credit card you want. Using a free online comparison tool can be helpful in this sense, as this may help you find the very card that is the most advantageous from a particular card-category. For instance, people who travel a lot may intend to find an appropriate card which gives them rewards in the travel industry. In this case, one has to look for special rewards credit cards that offer travel-related rewards. An online calculator can compare several cards that provide this type of reward. Thus one can easily find a card that is in accordance with his/her special needs, and in the same time is the most beneficial from that very category.

It is not a bad idea to Google the rewards credit card name one intends to get. Just by this simple research one will get a clear picture regarding how the card works. Remember that it is better to read customer reviews and opinions than trusting in bank reviews. It is evident that banks will try to convince as many people as they can to get them sign up.

Some people may opt for a rewards credit card with cash back. But there are many other options as well. So before actually signing any deal, interested individuals have to ask themselves many questions concerning their needs, spending habits and desires and try to find a card-type that fits into that plan. It is not all the same if one gets a card that offers 10% cash back or one that only offers 3%. So the more research you do, the better your card will be. Also be careful of seemingly good offers but whose restrictions will make it difficult to actually get the promoted rewards. So if one knows what his/her exact needs are, and knows the different cards’ terms and conditions, it will not be impossible to find a perfect card, and know exactly what the features of that card are.

A useful advice for present or future rewards credit card owners is to know the card-limits. These may involve credit-limits as well as other types of limitations regarding the usage of the card. There are different card policies referring to the maximum spending-limit, the maximum rewards, and the eligibility for rewards. One can only make use of the rewards credit card’s advantages if he/she knows the card’s exact terms and conditions. Moreover, future applicants are recommended to opt for a card without expiration date, annual fees and caps.

Although by having a rewards credit card one accepts to get rewards only after having spent a certain amount of money, card owners should spend carefully! Think about the general principle that one cannot take advantage of the rewards provided by this card if he/she does not pay his/her bill back in full every month, thus incurring late payment charges. Failing to pay off one’s bill means high interests, and thus the rewards can only compensate the losses from these interests. Or even worse than that, the expenses of being late with payments may outweigh the rewards.

So due to the fact that reward credit cards come with higher interests than regular credit cards, one has to pay very much attention to make card-balance payments in time. It is also important to know the card’s terms and have an appropriate card-type that perfectly suits to one’s spending habits. If one uses his/her card wisely, this will result in savings and rewards! But for those who cannot make regular payments in time it is better to have a low-interest credit card.

A final tip for people intending to make use of their rewards credit cards is to know your rewards well. Those who do not make any reward-claims will not get any. Ask for a percentage back on certain purchases, or the total purchases, depending on the card-type you have. Know the fees, the disclosures and all the hidden card-details, otherwise you cannot benefit from your card. Remember that the best reward cards are those that do not have any fees, and are issued by a reputable company. The latter can be checked by the simple fact of the card having a major logo on it. This can be a Visa or a MasterCard logo for instance. This ensures not only that the card issuer is trustworthy, but also the fact that the owner can use his/her card at almost any location. Have a good luck with your rewards credit card!
